Abstract

O tratamento superficial por plasma em temperatura ambiente foi utilizado para tratar fibras de p-aramida. O principal objetivo foi a melhoria nas propriedades adesivas das fibras à resina epóxi, através de modificações químicas e físicas da superfície. Três diferentes potências de radiofrequência (RF) foram utilizadas: 45, 60 e 90 W, com intervalo de tratamento de 15 min. A adesividade nos compósitos foi analisada por microscopia eletrônica de varredura (SEM) e as propriedades mecânicas foram avaliadas por ensaio de tração. Os resultados mostraram que o aumento da potência teve influencia na resistência à fratura, mantendo inalterado o módulo de Young e a deformação máxima. Estes resultados apresentaram uma melhoria quanto a adesividade pelo tratamento por plasma.

Plasma surface treatment at room-temperature was used on p-aramid fibers. The main goal was improving the adhesiveness of the fiber to the epoxy matrix, by changing the chemical and physical surface of the fibers. Three different radio frequencies (RF) were used: 45, 60 and 90 W, with an interval of 15 min treatment. The adhesiveness was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In order to check the increasing of adhesiveness, it was made the tensile test. The results showed that with the increased radio frequency power, the ultimate strength was gradually increased, while the Young modulus and the strain the tensile specimen can undergo have no significant changes, what is a good indicative of improved adhesiveness.
