Abstract
The author describes the technology for controlling the morphology of the oxide inclusions through reaction of the steel with a controlled slag. The describe process is compared with the control of oxide inclusions with calcium in the form of metal or CaSi. The process is applicable mainly to tire cord steels and machining steels. The control of the slag chemistry combined to the addition of wollastonite to the slag, allows to obtain deformable oxide inclusions, improved the fabrication characteristics of the mentioned steels. The describe production process guarantees a amorphous inclusion, as opposed to crystalline inclusions, which are non deformable.
