Abstract

The physical properties for a mold flux, such as viscosity and solidification point are critical elements in the design of optimized mold fluxes for high speed slab casting. The paper describes the background and results behind the design of suitable fluxes. Also described are the improvements to Spherical Granules which have made them more forgiving and have enhanced flexibility during turbulent mold conditions, which are often present at high casting speeds.
