Abstract

The MORGOIL" LD" lock is designed to enable optimum mounting of rolling mill bearings. The system can be used on oil film bearings as well as rolling element backup and work roll bearings. Applications include hot and cold strip mills, plate mills, section mills, bar mills and wire rod mills. The locking system was specifically developed in order to improve the accuracy and consistency of bearing mounting, leading to better running conditions and improved component lives of the critical components such as bearings, bearing retainers, rolls and chocks. The system has been well proven on work rolls and back-up rolls of hot and cold mills and has been found to be substantially quicker and simpler to use than existing mounting equipment. It is extremely safe, requires little maintenance and no special tools. All bearings are mounted consistently in accordance with the desired mounting parameters, for optimum rolling conditions. This paper describes the design and operation of the system, provides operational data and benefits of implementation.
