Abstract
Coal and Carbon, both of which are currently indispensable in a series of iron and steel making processes are reviewed in terms of their molecular and nanoscopic structure, conversion / preparation and properties at working conditions in future process development for higher efficiency, better quality and environmental protection. The improvement of their properties based on their nanoscopic structure is emphasized with every carbon materials since their nanoscopic structure is now settled in their structure hierarchy, being correlated to their properties / performance to be designable and producible in their manufacture. Carbon composites with other kinds of carbons and materials are also reviewed from the same view-points for better performances.
