Abstract

The term New Melting Technology refers to a series of measures and innovations introduced in EAFs during the last decade, all aiming to increase productivity. The use of changes and the dramatic increase of productivity justifies the use of a special term to designate the new technology. Fortunately, the use of oxygen plays a most important role in the new technology. The present project was started to coordinate AGA's activities in the development and introduction of the new technology. The components of the new melting technology are: Oxygen assisted melting Lancing Oxyfuel burners Foamy slag practice Process control Gas stirring Water cooled panels Ladle furnaces Ladle metallurgy UHP furnaces The first four components are included in the present project.
