Abstract

SMS-DEMAG developed the CyberLink™ Technology in order to improve the economic efficiency of slab casters. With very simple mechanical design the patented CyberLink suspension of the top frame provides automatic self alignment of the frame during casting, the so called “CyberAlignment™”. Owing to the fact that the wear of the rollers can be decreased significantly. Hence, the up time of the caster will be extended and maintenance costs will be decreased accordingly. Furthermore the CyberLink technology provides detection of final solidification point, called “CyberTracking™”, and the evaluation of the optimum roll gap, called “CyberTaper™”. Not only that CyberTracking allows detecting the final solidification point, it also measures directly the liquid fraction of the mushy zone. This measurement is featured with an even higher accuracy than involved calculation software. With the use of CyberTracking it is now possible to increase the casting speed and thus, improve the productivity without taking the risk of damages. Additionally the yield is increased when casting critical steel grades with dynamic soft reduction and / or CyberTaper. In the final analysis the use of CyberLink™ Technology leads to a significant increase of quality and economic efficiency including an attractive return on investment. The patented SMS-DEMAG Conti Twin Divider allows individual strand width adjustments on either twin strand, always maintaining the center position of the submerged entry nozzle. By such means, uniform flow conditions and flexibility to react rapidly on customer requirements are provided. This counts for new projects as well as for retro-fits into existing slab casting machines.
