Abstract
Carbon neutral steelmaking and reduced greenhouse gas emissions is the buzzword in today’s steel industry. But also, for the future transition, the availability of iron ore pellets will play a crucial role. Whereas during the past six decades since the invention of the pelletizing process the productivity, energy efficiency and emission levels of the plants have been constantly improved, the global challenge of climate change requires more drastic changes in design and operations to reduce the carbon footprint of the plants, with the midterm target to zero CO2 emissions. In this paper, we will present our latest state-of-the-art pelletizing technology and discuss how new tools and concepts can help build a next-generation pellet plant with the aim of achieving real green pellet production. All the advancements discussed here are a result of our research & development efforts, modernizations, and the development of new processes and technology for modern pelletizing plants for magnetite, hematite, and mixed ore processing plants.
