Abstract

A idéia de que as empresas não sobrevivem sem computadores leva os empresários a investirem cada vem mais em Tecnologia da Informação (TI). No entanto, os investimentos muitas vezes não têm uma justificativa real, o que gera questionamentos quanto ao retorno desses investimentos. Como nunca se investiu tanto em TI, a preocupação atual é acertar nos investimentos para fazer com que as empresas produzam mais com menos e não invistam simplesmente porque o concorrente investiu. Neste contexto, esta pesquisa promove um estudo sobre o investimento em Tecnologia da Informação (TI) nas empresas de maior faturamento do setor industrial do Vale do Paraíba Paulista (VPP), mais precisamente nas empresas das cidades de São José dos Campos, Taubaté, Jacareí e Pindamonhangaba, do Estado de São Paulo, Brasil. Foram enviados formulários para as empresas solicitando dados de investimentos em TI entre os anos de 2000 e 2004. Das 19 empresas que responderam aos formulários, conclui-se que elas ainda não se beneficiaram de altos investimentos em TI e que os maiores investimentos em pessoal parecem direcionar-se aos que não usam TI.

 

The idea that companies would not survive without computers leads enterprisers to invest each time more in Information Technology (IT). However, investments often do not have real reasons, which generates questions about the return of these investments. Once that never was invested so much in IT, the current preoccupation is to make correct investments to make companies produce more with less and do not invest just because the competitor invested before. In this context, this research promotes a study on investment in Information Technology (IT) in the largest industrial sector (business turnover) of ‘Paraiba Paulista’ Valley (VPP), more accurately companies in the cities of São José dos Campos, Taubaté, Jacarei and Pindamonhangaba, State of São Paulo, Brazil. Forms were sent to companies requesting information on investments in IT between the years 2000 and 2004. Of the 19 companies that responded to the forms it appears that they have not yet benefited from higher investment in IT and that the biggest investments in staff appear to direct the targets that do not use IT.
