Abstract

Este trabalho relata o desenvolvimento do Processo EOF, cujo primeiro forno, com 22 t de aço por corrida, iniciou as operações em abril de 1982. O Grupo Gerdau opera usinas com diferentes tecnologias, desde usinas semi-integradas à base de fornos elétricos a arco, até usinas integradas à base de mini altos-fornos/aciaria a oxigênio, uma operando com BOF e a outra, de Divinópolis, com o EOF. O Processo EOF foi desenvolvido com as seguintes características: sopro submerso de oxigênio; pós-combustão do monóxido de carbono que emerge do banho; pré-aquecimento da carga fria; retirada de escória e novas adições de fundentes sem interrupção do sopro; rápida troca de soleira entre campanhas. Um trabalho constante de desenvolvimento possibilitou à Gerdau Divinópolis, em 2005, a produção de 580.200 t de aço em seu EOF de 43,5 t, correspondendo a 13.338 corridas no ano calendário - desempenho destacado quando se compara com o de outras aciarias, sejam elas brasileiras ou internacionais.

 

The paper presents the development of the EOF process, starting with the first furnace of 22 t steel per tap, in April 1982. The Brazilian Gerdau Group, with units in the Americas and in Europe, operates plants with different steel melting technologies, from non-integrated, arc furnace based melt shops through integrated plants, operating mini blast furnaces and oxygen melt shops - one operating a BOF unit and the other, at Divinopolis, outfitted with the EOF. The EOF process was developed featuring the following peculiarities: submerged oxygen blow; post- combustion of the carbon monoxide leaving the bath; scrap pre-heating; deslagging and addition of fluxes without interrupting the blow; quick bottom exchange between campaigns. A steady strive for development and the exploration of all the potentialities offered by the technology led Gerdau to a production of 580.200 t of steel in their 43,5 t EOF in 2005, corresponding to 13.338 heats over the calendar year - an outstanding performance when compared to other steel works, be it in Brazil, be it worldwide.
