Abstract
This paper presents a detailed description of the CASIMA’s meltshop facilities, the melting process to produce steel via high percentages of HBI with scrap and pig iron, as well as the mass and energy balance model applied. The application of this model has important advantages on the melt process, because by using this tool it becomes possible to optimize the metallic yield, flux and energy consumption; to predict the slag composition and the tapping conditions; and to design the appropriate electrical and continuous feeding procedures. This work also shows the application of the mass and energy balance model to three different charge mixes under CASIMA’s EAF operating parameters and the tapping conditions that could be achieved.
