Abstract

O shot-peening é um processo de jateamento com granalha de aço, com o objetivo de aumentar a vida em fadiga de componentes. Esse aumento na durabilidade é causado pelo encruamento superficial, e pela adição de tensões residuais compressivas nas camadas mais superficiais da peça. Este processo torna-se mais importante ainda para a indústria de molas automotivas, pois aumentando a durabilidade das peças, pode-se aumentar também a tensão de trabalho. Assim, é permitida uma redução de diâmetro ou de espessura, que leva a uma redução de peso da mola. O objetivo deste trabalho é medir a tensão residual por difração de raios-X, causada por diferentes tratamentos de shot-peening (variando a granulometria da granalha), a fim de determinar a condição que produza maiores níveis de tensão residual superficial compressiva.

 

The shot peening is a blasting process with steel shot, aiming to increase the fatigue life of parts. This increase on durability is caused by surface hardening, and by adding compressive residual stresses in the superficial layers of the part. This process has being very important to the automotive springs industry, while increasing durability of parts, we can increase also the operating stresses. Therefore, a reduction of spring’s thickness is permitted, and hence a spring weight reduction. The objective of this study is to determine residual stress by X-ray diffraction, produced by different shot peening process (changing the shot granulometry), in order to determine the best condition that produce high levels of compressive residual stress in the superficial layers.
