Abstract

The Plate Mill has become a versatile tool in the steelmaker’s armoury over the recent past. Its capabilities have been developed to allow it to produce a full range of flat products to compete in some of the fastest growing and technological challenging areas that face steelmakers. Pipe plate is a good example of this and demonstrates how the flexibility of the unit can be used to service a number of markets with the use of a Plate Steckel Mill to service the thinner gauge end of the market whilst retaining the thicker market with standard plate mill processes, both utilising enhanced technologies to provide maximum benefit to both supplier and customer of plate.
