Abstract

O número de pequenas e médias empresas no Brasil é substancialmente maior que as de grande porte, empregando uma grande quantidade de trabalhadores. Porem, o índice de acidentes de trabalho nas pequenas e médias empresas é, muitas vezes, superior ao das grandes empresas seja no setor industrial ou no setor de comércio e serviços. Neste sentido um Sistema de Gestão de Saúde e Segurança Ocupacional (SGSSO) voltado a pequenas e médias empresas pode auxiliar na mudança deste cenário, contribuindo para a redução dos acidentes de trabalho e melhorando a saúde, a auto-estima e a qualidade de vida no trabalho. Assim procurou-se apresentar os principais elementos para implementação de um SGSSO, apresentando e descrevendo o que é e como funciona, as etapas para a implementação, as dificuldades e problemas enfrentados por pequenas e médias empresas, discutindo problemas nesse processo e apresentando sugestões para se evitar o insucesso na implementação de um SGSSO nas pequenas e médias empresas. Nesta pesquisa utilizou-se um estudo de caso, em uma empresa de médio porte do setor industrial que atua no seguimento de metalurgia, o que corroborou com os dados levantados na pesquisa bibliográfica e comprovou a dificuldade e os problemas enfrentados por estas empresas na implantação do SGSSO. Também foi proposto soluções para que a implantação e a manutenção do SGSSO tenham êxito e melhorem os índices de acidentes no trabalho, a saúde e a qualidade de vida no trabalho destas empresas.

 

The number of small and medium companies in Brazil is substantially larger than the big ones, employing a great deal of workers. But the number of work accidents in small and medium companies is, many times, bigger than those in the big companies, whether in the industrial or the commercial and services sector. In this sense, an Occupational Health and Safety Management System addressed to small and medium companies may be of great help in the change of this scenario, contributing for the reduction of work accidents and improving the health, self-esteem and life quality at work. Therefore, it’s important to present the main elements for the implementation of an Occupational Health and Safety Management System, introducing and describing what it is, and how it works, the steps for the implementation, the challenges, difficulties and problems faced by small and medium companies, discussing issues in this process and making suggestions to avoid the failure in the implementation of the OHSAS. In this research a specific study was used, in a medium company from the metallurgical sector, which sustained the information gathered in the bibliography research and confirmed the challenges and the problems faced by these companies in the implementation of the OHSAS. These difficulties were also discussed in order to propose solutions so that the implementation and maintenance of the OHSAS is successful and reduce the number of work accidents, and improve the health and life quality in these companies.
