Abstract

Describes small to medium sized two high and four high mills used in the ferrous and non ferrous metal industries. The main components of these types of rolling mills are described such as rolls, roll neck bearings, mill housings, types of screwdowns, roll drive spindles, mechanical drives, electrical drives, various types of instrumentation, coilers, pay off equipment, thickness gauges, automatic gage control, and coolant systems. Also discussed are some of the basic calculations used in the design of rolling mills to determine separating force, or rolling load, mill horse-power, and rolling torque. Service factors used in rolling mill design for different applications are also explained.
