Abstract
Avoidance of burn-through risk, improvements in production planning, and optimization of the use of refractory materials are made possible by rapid and accurate measurement of hot refractory lining surfaces. A laser radar system based on pulsed time-of-flight techniques and fast scanning has been developed for hot refractory lining measurements of metallurgical converters and ladles. The structure of the system, its 3D software features, and execution of measurement techniques is presented. Experiences with the system are given along with an evaluation of its potential benefits.
