Abstract
In comparison to single-phase microstructures, ferritic-austenitic duplex stainless steels exhibit different work hardening and recrystallization behavior. This paper presents a comparative study on recrystallization heat treatment of a cold-rolled duplex grade (W.-Nr: 1.4462), an ordinary austenitic stainless steel (W.-Nr: 1.4404), and a high-alloy ferritic grade (W.-Nr: 1.4575). The investigations include X-ray diffraction (phase analysis, dislocation density measurement, Debye-Scherrer analysis), macro- and microhardness testing, and transmission electron microscopy. The results show the occurrence of the following phenomena: extensive recovery and recrystallization in the ferrite; limited recovery and extensive recrystallization in the austenite; and eutectoid transformation of ferrite into sigma phase and austenite. The eutectoid transformation influences the recrystallization kinetics of both phases.
