Abstract
Basic oxygen furnace (BOF) slags have little immediate application. Therefore their accumulated volume tends to increase. However, these slags are an attractive source for valuable materials due to their high iron and calcium content. This work shows the results of the pyrometallurgical treatment of BOF slags expressed in terms of iron and manganese recovery yields, free lime and MgO content. Besides, comparisons were made to evaluate the application of the resulted slag as an aggregate for Portland cement. It was evaluated the effect of different reducing agents (C, Al, Si, and Al dross) and also the effect of fluxes addition (SiO₂ and Al₂O₃). Two resulting of the slags were evaluated as desulfurizing fluxes for hot metal.
