ROLLING MILL TECHNOLOGY FOR STEEL LONGPRODUCTS

Abstract

The main focus of this paper is to present specific solutions for the rolling of long products of special and carbon steel grades. Innovative layouts have been developed for flexible rolling operation, reduced investment and operation costs and high-quality products. These Flexible Rolling Mills are designed for prompt adaptation to the variety of the rolled products achieving a broad product range at highest operational product yield. The PRS Precision Rolling Systern which is a solution for rolling extrernely precise product dimensions, will be described. The systern can be installed in any conventional bar mill. This newly developed sizing systern uses only six entry dirnensions for the "infinite" produdion of ultra-precise round bars. The Flat Rolling Block is a perfect instrument to produce flat bars econornically in very small lot sizes. Flat bars are rolled in a wide size range with narrow tolerances and sharp comers. The product size can be changed fully autornatically within seconds. High Speed Wire Rod Rolling solutions with design speeds up to 150 mls are presented as well as additional advanced rolling mill equiprnent. The EBROS Billet welding systern allows endless rolling of bar and wire rod products. The yield and productivity can be increased by 3 to 5 percent, any coil size can be produced regardless of the billet weight, no short bars occur on the cooling bed.
