Abstract
VAI process control and optimization systems cover the whole range of steel plant automation, beginning with takeover of raw material information from upstream production facilities and concluding with the delivery of heats to the continuous casting automation. This comprises scrap yard management, control of hot metal and desulphurization as well as steel plant automation systems, including melting and secondary metallurgy treatment units. Figure 1 shows possible routes in the carbon steel melt shop, which are continuously supervised by integrated automation systems. This paper scope is to describe some VAI best solutions for process optimization and control. Process-control systems (PLC Level 1), basic automation; personal computers (L1, L2), HMI, models and process optimization; server computers (L3), plant management; operating systems and software tools available on the market throughout the world. VAI can provide a full solution for control and optimization (L1 + L2 + L3) or separated packages L1, L2 or L3.
