Abstract
This work is an overview of what is being done by the Usiminas Steel Construction Development Management working team. Its goal is to develop and make available to the market building systems and construction solutions made from flat steel (plates and coils) components feasible within the low income housing projects reality. The efforts are focused on solutions that keep in mind the straight budget limits caring about quality and safety guidelines from local codes and standards. The development is based on: research support from recognized institutions; direct assistance to design professionals, builders and developers; actions and works to show and spread around solutions and methodologies related to industrialized building systems production. A meaningful part of this efforts is being known at the market by USITETO and its solutions could be shortly described as light weight building systems structured with steel sections made of hot rolled coils.
