Abstract

Facing the complexity of operations of the Iron Ore tailings dam in Carajás, a partnership between CVRD and Geoxplore Consultoria e Serviços was built in order to develop a management system to support the decision making process and controlling activities. The system, called GeoBarragem was conceived to be used in getting and storing all the data related to the tailings dam management, as well as analyzing and combining these data to simulate the behavior of the dam throughout the years. The system is composed of a data collector (LogMate), a data-bank management system, a software for spacial analysis (ArcGIS 8.3) and a dam simulator, the Tailings, from SMG.
