Abstract

Rolling mills producing reinforcement bars (rebars) and/or merchant bars face increasing competition. To be a frontrunner, the mill needs good product quality and low production costs. Cast-in-Carbide (CIC) rolls, developed by Sandvik, offer a metallurgical bond between cemented carbide and ductile iron, allowing for superior torque transmission and resistance to rolling forces. This article discusses the development, properties, applications, and economic advantages of CIC rolls over traditional materials.
