Abstract
Since the DC Furnace technology has been introduced to the market, many discussions about advantages and disadvantages of DC vs AC took place. ABB as major player on AC and DC Arc Furnaces has put together the experience and results made by more than 20 ABB DC Furnaces installed world wide. The impact of a DC-EAF to the network is also discussed and new methods for compensation are presented. Furthermore new trends and developments on the steelmarket are shown which have a major impact on the design of electric Arc Furnaces. These new requirements are summarized and new technology developments are presented, ABB recently has introduced to the market.
