Abstract

The Brazilian Ferro Alloy and Silicon Metal industry is part of Brazil’s growing extractive industry which is without doubt Brazil’s major economic force. This extractive industry includes Agriculture, Mining, Iron, Steel, Metals, Alloys, Cellulose, Paper, etc., and finds a rather ideal industrial environment in Brazil. The Ferro Alloy industry is based on readily available raw materials of excellent quality and on the availability of electric energy from hydro resources. Its production technology reached international levels. Skilled personnel is available. The climate is favourable and there are no hazards like earthquakes or wars. The private Ferro Alloy industry contributes under normal economic conditions to the national economy, which fact should convince Federal Government and State Governments to protect this industry and encourage all conditions for its industry to survive and grow. The recent events in Brazil’s political and economical life definitely need the Brazilian Citizen to gain political maturity and to also reflect about the country economical development. ABRAFE as the Association representing the Brazilian Ferro Alloy and Silicon Metal producers does play a very important role in convincing the Government of the economic viability of this industry and its important contribution to the national economy.
