Abstract

TOTEM Co. Ltd. has developed a bell-less rotary charging unit of innovative design for blast furnaces (BRCU). The apparatus has valves that have substituted the bells in the previous design. This new device is very maintainable, its members that are exposed to erosion by attrition can be replaced during the furnace short downtime. The rotor protecting plates are to be substituted only once in 4 years, which does not require to dismantle the apparatus on the whole. A research work on 1:20 and 1:5 scale models has verified that in terms of circular distribution quality, the operating abilities of this new apparatus have the edge over the same abilities of a chute-type apparatus, as well as of a rotary charging unit with bells.
