Abstract

The paper presents the investigations of the influence of the heat treatment of the W-Mo-V steel of the 9-2-2 type with an increased contents of Si and Nb or Ti on the phase transformations during the heat treatment, its conditions were optimized to obtain the maximum secondary hardness after tempering. It has been found that the highest secondary hardness after tempering, of all the steels examined, has a steel with an addition of about 0.5% Nb containing about 1.6% V. It has been found that the secondary hardness effect is caused by precipitations of the M₄C₃ type carbides. The paper covers also the investigation of the chemical composition of the examined steels on their hot deformability. It was found that partial substitution of Si for W and partial substitution of Ti and, to a limited extent, Nb for V improved hot deformability of the steels.
