Abstract

Hot Mill Lubrication (HML) has been used as an operating tool by mill management for many years as a way to improve productivity and reduce costs, although the application of this practice was not widespread in North America. During the 1990s, a renewed interest occurred due to improved application efficiencies and documented results of the oil program. The merits of HML, the improvements in application technology, along with actual case studies are discussed, as well as the future direction of HML programs.
