Abstract

The HIsmelt Direct Smelting Technology has been developed by the Rio Tinto Group for over 25 years. The paper discusses the start-up and ramp-up of the first commercial HIsmelt plant in Kwinana, Western Australia, to 800.000 tpy. Presentation of the history, technology and latest results. Results to be presented around productivity, maintenability, and future developments.
