Abstract
To cope with the degradation of iron ore, Nippon Steel Corporation has been developing the innovative pretreatment technologies for sintering. We developed the “Selective Granulation” process in1996, with which we pre-granulate hard-to-melt (e.g. high Al2O3 content) iron ores and coat them with easy-to-melt iron ores in order to keep good sintering properties. Consecutively the “SPEx-II” (Semi-Pellet Expansion step-II) process has been developped. It keeps the sintering productivity even if we use fine iron ores like pellet-feed by making hard semi-pellets as a sinterfeed with a roll crusher, a drum pelletizer and a dryer.
