Abstract

Modern UHP - arc furnaces are operating with higher secondary voltage and lower electrode current. The question, until which value of current the arc is burning stable and the active power input is at the optimum, has more and more importance. Simple methods are described to estimate this limit. Further some suitable possibilities to influence this limit are indicated.
