Abstract
At the request of the BOF steel plant, the Research and Development department of Dillinger Hütte investigated the effects of the geometrical arrangement of the bottom plugs in BOF bottom bubbling and the resultant effects on the mixing times. The results of the calculations carried out are presented as a survey over the influences of the parameters “position of the bottom plugs” and “bottom bubbling gas quantity” on the mixing of steel. The age of the lining and therefore the inner geometry of the converter was also considered. Although the results have a relative value, they should be of assistance in evaluating the positioning of the bottom plugs.
