Abstract

Paul Wurth Italia became as SMS Demag S.p.A. an important competitor in the worldwide cokemaking engineering and construction field at the beginning of 2000 with the order for a new Battery 45 Ovens in Piombino (Italy) and the order for the new Battery B3 in Fos sur Mer (France). The new LUCCHINI “45 OVENS” battery (430,000 coke T./year) in Piombino Works has been built by Paul Wurth Italia on a turn-key basis. The project was completed fully in accordance with the contractual time schedule on June 28th 2002. The first coke was pushed 24 months after contract came into force, and the performances were successfully executed within October 2002. The New Battery B3 was awarded by SOLLAC MEDITERRANEE (Arcelor Group) to Paul Wurth Italia in October 2004. The new battery is going to be built on a green-field basis and the first coke is expected to be pushed on 15th of June 2006. Basic engineering, detailed engineering, erection and start-up will be carried out by Paul Wurth Italia, on the basis of its experience and particular know-how grown up in the last years and on the basis of the operation of the existing batteries in Fos-sur-Mer.
