Abstract

The turbulence pickling process has important advantages in comparison to conventional processes. The pickling time is reduced substantially, resulting in increased production or a shorter process section. Important energy savings can be achieved by operating at a lower pickling temperature. A process model allows effective control of the pickling effect and minimization of overpickling. Operating results show that excellent surface cleanliness is achieved for both carbon and stainless steel strip. The process is fully proven. Since its introduction in 1986, a total of 10 turbulence pickling lines are operating or under construction, 5 for carbon steel and 5 for stainless steel
