Abstract

Este trabalho visa apresentar como a metodologia de simulação pode ser aplicada na tomada de decisões de aumento de capacidade, avaliação de layout, dimensionamento de equipamentos e otimização de regras de operação do complexo: forno elétrico, forno panela e máquina de lingotamento contínuo. Em sistemas dinâmicos, como o do complexo acima, devido aos altos valores de investimentos envolvidos e a complexidade do sistema, métodos de análise avançados são indicados. Os Investimentos nestes equipamentos não devem ser decididos pelos seus efeitos locais isolados. A forte variabilidade e interdependência do complexo o caracteriza como um sistema de regulação por feedback. Este problema é caracterizado como tandem queue. Simulação é um método que traz informações essenciais, que não podem ser obtidas por outras vias, principalmente aquelas relativas ao comportamento dinâmico do sistema. Aplicou-se com sucesso em uma empresa orientando as decisões para aumento de capacidade, chegando-se a soluções de expansão que apresentam melhor relação custo-benefício e que incorporam estabilidade ao sistema. As soluções encontradas se diferenciaram daquelas inicialmente propostas pela empresa.

 

This paper aim to present how the simulation methodology may be applied in the capacity increase decision making, plant layout evaluation, equipments dimensioning, testes and selection rules for the complex: electric arc furnace, ladle treatment furnace and continuous casting machine. In a dynamic system like this, due to the high value investments involved and the complexity of the system, advanced methods of analysis are indicated. The investments in these equipments couldn’t be decided based only in it’s stand-alone and locally effect. The high variability and interdependency of the complex components make it as a feedback regulation system. That’s why this problem is known as tandem queue. For dynamic evaluation of a system like the described, simulation is a method that gives essential information that couldn’t be obtained through other different methods. The simulation successfully accomplished the goal to assign the set of investments for capacity increase while balancing the cost-benefit relation and the system stability. The solution reveled by the simulation is different from that initially supposed for the company.
