Abstract
This study aims to develop a comparative analysis to predict the influence of blanks in methodology for determining the Drum Index (D.I.), cold mechanical resistance, by adding water previously calculated, stored in piles of coke suppliers from different countries to the National Steel Company (CSN). The Kit DI, already patented by CSN, consists of a quick and practical tool for use in their own pile of coke from the various CSN’s suppliers. This work was performed, first, by using DI’s Kit plus precalculated water values. In the second part the tests were carried out with equipment and resources of the Laboratory for Reduction of CSN, and thus a reliable determination of DI as a source of comparison was obtained. Comparing the results obtained with the DI’s Kit with and without addition of water and the DI obtained in the laboratory, the results in the use of the DI’s Kit with the addition of water for controlling the empty box is satisfactory, so that their values are closer to the value obtained in the laboratory, than the data obtained from the Kit DI without taking the blank into account.
