Abstract

Profile analysis of broadened X-Ray diffraction peak was used to study microstructural modifications during fatigue. The first part of this study delt with a case carburized steel. Three stages of microstructural modifications were found to be related to carbon content and applied stresses. The second part delt with the effect of grain size upon the microstructural modifications during the early stage of fatigue. During this period we have shown that this effect may be represented by a Hall-Petch type relation.
