Welcome
This year 2014, the "World Cup Year", is also the year of the 45th ABM Steelmaking Seminar, and Porto Alegre, the beautiful and cozy capital city of Rio Grande do Sul State, will once again host our event.
The Steelmaking Seminar is part of those meetings where not only the exchange of technical information and professional networking are important but also the fraternizing and camaraderie between the participants occur naturally, causing new friendships to start or, at least, a mutual respect for each other's activity.
It is the place where those who are starting in the industry, those climbing up the hierarchy of positions and technical knowledge and those who, after reaching the highest possible positions, on the same level of relationship, keep participating for the sheer pleasure of meeting friends. The almost informal but rather proficient atmosphere is initially set up by the symbiosis between the dedicated committee and ABM's hardworking personnel.
The Brazilian steelmaking industry is growing with the arrival of new players, such as GV do Brasil (Pindamonhangaba/SP) and CSP (Pecem/CE), among other undertakings, some still at their initial stages, in spite of the strong competition caused by excess production for a world market with weak demand. On the other hand, it keeps investing strongly in the enhancement of processes and in cost reduction in order to adapt to the market reality underpinned on minimum prices and maximum quality.
It is within this scenario that we are going to welcome you in POA, which is how the locals kindly refer to their city, for another edition of ABM's Steelmaking Seminar.
