THE CHANGE OF MAGNETIC CHARACTERISTICS OF IRON-SILICON ALLOYS AFTER THE ACTION OF HIGH PRESSURES AND TEMPERATURES

Resumo

Os aços eletrotécnicos (ligas de ferro com silício) são amplamente aplicados na indústria em geral. A fim de se obter a diminuição da quantidade de defeitos na estrutura desse material, são aplicados processos de tecnologias variáveis, tais como compressão multiaxial, laminação em etapas e tratamento térmico. Estas operações influenciam, em um grau significativo, as propriedades magnéticas. Para avaliar a influência da alta pressão sobre essas características magnéticas neste estudo, amostras da liga foram tratadas no dispositivo de alta pressão com pressões de até 5,0 GPa, e temperaturas até 1400o C. Dentre todas as combinações de variáveis experimentadas, a maior diminuição da susceptibilidade magnética foi obtida para a liga com 16% de Si, depois da aplicação da pressão de 5,0 GPa e a temperatura de 1000o C, durante 180 s.

 

The electrotechnical steel (iron-silicon alloys) is widely applied in the industry for general purposes. In order to reduce the amount of defects in the structure of this material, some processes are applied, such as multiaxial compression and thermal treatment. These operations have great influence also on the magnetic properties. To evaluate the influence of high pressure on these characteristics, in this study, samples of some alloys had been put into a high-pressure device with pressures up to 5,0 GPa, and temperatures until 1400o C. Among all the combinations of parameters, the most significant reduction of the magnetic susceptibility was gotten for the alloy with 16% of Si, application of 5,0 GPa of pressure and the temperature of 1000o C, for 180 s.
