The causes of failure in angular contact ball bearing employed in paper mill exhaust system have been investigated. The following experimental procedures were carried out: visual, dimensional, metallographic, fractographic and inclusion content analyses, besides hardness testing. Is has been concluded that the rolling-element bearing failed by overload in highly localized regions in both the inner and outer races. Contact fatigue developed specially in the inner race as a result of high inclusion concentration in this region. The bluish colored outer ring surface indicated that the local temperature reached the range of 300-350oC.
