In terms of criteria for the best available technologies (BAT) in the field of preparing raw materials for blast furnaces (BF), the traditional sintering technology and the new agglomeration process - briquetting by the stiff extrusion method - are compared. Based on the results of scientific research, on designing and engineering experience, on experimental and industrial tests carried out by the authors, on the practical feedback of production and melting in blast furnaces of extruded briquettes (BREX), and finally based on analysis of energy efficiency and environmental impact, the technology of briquetting by the stiff extrusion method can claim the title of BAT for agglomeration. In terms of technical and economic indicators, it can be considered quite competitive with the main method of agglomeration - sintering. The promising options for the synergy of the technologies under consideration are described.
