Abstract
At the synthesis and sintering of the superhard materials by processes of high pressures and high temperatures almost static, are used gaskets, independent of the type of employed technology: Belt, Multipiston and Anvil with Concavity. The deformable capsules are made of ceramic materials and are submitted the parameters that change between 5,0 GPa the 8,0 GPa and 1200oC to 1300oC. To support to these severe conditions, the ceramic materials must allow characteristics special, such as: high thermal resistance, inertia chemical and determined shear strength. This last factor constitutes the main characteristic in the selection of ceramic materials for use as deformable capsule. In this work is carried on the measurement of the shear strength of some ceramic materials found in the region the Campos of the Goytacazes/RJ. This measurement was carried on using the anvils of Bridgman, it can be to determine the height critical, or maximum thickness compressible, of each tested material. The results of the testing can support data practical for the best selection of ceramic materials to use as gasket.
