In this work is being investigated the behavior of the friction coefficient in hard coatings deposited on hard metal substrate. The TiN, TiCN and TiAlN coatings were deposited in hard metal through the technique of Cathodic Arc (PAPVD). The friction coefficient of the hard coatings was determined in a tribometer by the ball on flat technique. The friction coefficient of the hard coatings was determined for 1, 5 and 10 N loads. At a given load the friction coefficient was determined with the humidity changing from dry to a humidity of 50% condition. The surface of the hard metal substrate was changed by the microblasting operation. Microblasting increases the surface roughness. The friction coefficient of the coated hard metal with TiN lowered with the increase of the load. The humidity around 50% increases the friction coefficient. The samples that were submitted to microblasting the friction coefficient was higher mainly due to roughness of the samples
