Resumo
The problems of quick heating, necessary to dry furnace refractory linings, are analyzed. A convective heating method to produce a rapid heat transfer at highly controlled temperatures, with uniform heating, is explained. The portable equipment used, based on natural gas or other available gaseous fuels (propane, coke oven gas, etc.), is described, together with the results achieved in the drying of 250-ton steel ladles, cowpers, blast furnaces, reheating furnaces, soaking pits, open-hearth furnaces, and in reactors for direct reduction.
